Obituary of Henry Layden

Henry Martin Layden, Sr. Native of Belvidere, NC Henry Martin Layden, Sr., age 82, of 2005 North Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Sunday, August 8, 2004 at his residence. He was born in Perquimans County, NC, the son of the late Dallas and Alethia Cartwright Layden, and was the husband of Audrey Russell Layden of the residence. Mr. Layden was a member of Berea Baptist Church, former member of the Providence Ruritan Club, member of V.F.W. Post 6060, a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WW II, and the owner of H. M. Layden’s Store. Besides his wife, Mr. Layden is survived by a daughter, Jean L. Hayman and husband Robert of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, Henry M. Layden, Jr. and wife Betty Jo, and Russell Layden and wife Linda both of Elizabeth City, NC; six grandchildren, Lorelle Baum and husband Lindsey, Denise Layden, Bobbie Jean Hayman, April Duncan and husband Jason, Beth Gallina and husband Chris, and Martin Layden; and three great grandchildren, Stephanie Baum, Blake Duncan and Samuel Baum. He was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2004, at 2:00 pm in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Stanley officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by the William Clarence Jackson V.F.W. Post 6060. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 7:00 until 8:30, and at other times at the residence of the son, Henry M.
