Obituary of Carolyn Spence

CAROLYN MASSEY SPENCE Native of Apex, NC CAROLYN MASSEY SPENCE, 80, of 803 Flora St., Elizabeth City, NC died Sunday, August 8, 2004, in the Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville. She was born in Apex, NC to the late Wayne Wright Massey and Lillie Eason Massey and was the wife of Dr. William M. Spence. Mrs. Spence was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 55 years, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Museum of the Albemarle Guild and a former member of the Elizabeth City Women’s Club. She was a graduate of the Elizabeth City High School and Louisburg College. Besides her husband, Mrs. Spence is survived by two daughters, Lauren Spence Riddick and husband, Henry, of Washington, NC and Penny Spence Raby and husband, Eddie of Elizabeth City, NC; one son, W. Mark Spence and wife, Gloria, of Manteo, NC; a brother, Wayne W. Massey, Jr. of Elizabeth City. Also, she is survived by seven grandchildren, Karen Chrisman and husband Jim, Patrick Riddick and wife, Dana, Amanda Songer and husband, Neil, Abby O’Neal and husband Ashley, William M. Spence, II, Norris Raby and Carolyn Raby; two great grandchildren, Sydney Chrisman and Owen Chrisman. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning, August 11, 2004, at 11:00am in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Rev. T. R. Miller. The family will receive friends and relatives at their residence, 803 Flora St., Elizabeth City. Memorial gifts may be made to the First United Methodist Church’s Building Fund, P. O.
