Native of Camden County, NC
Lucinda Riggs Staples, 95, of W. Ehringhaus St., Elizabeth City died Tuesday, August 17, 2004, in the Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Camden County, NC to the late Peter and Lucinda Sawyer Riggs and was the widow of the late Tommie Staples. Mrs. Staples was a member of the Geneva Baptist Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Bessie Winslow and husband, Otho, of Elizabeth City, Odell Watkins and husband, J. W., of Camden, NC, Shirley Lane and husband, Willis, of Mannassa, VA and Barbara Ann Blair of Indiana; a son, William Staples and wife, Tennie, of Camden; a daughter-in-law, Earline Staples of Ahoskie, NC fifteen grandchildren, Loretta Smith, Jerry Watkins, Willis Ray Lane, Lisa Kirk, Jeff Lane, Wayne Jones, Kim Fightmaster, Mike Winslow, Joey Rogier, Cindy Rogier, Brenda Nash, Linda Eason, Susie Vincent, Janet Worthington, Mary Chambers, and several great grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Staples was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Staples, a son, Tommie Staples, Jr., three grandchildren, Rita Watkins, Billy Staples and Deborah Coppersmith; six sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 20, 2004, at 2:00 PM in the Geneva Baptist Church, by Rev. Roland Cooper. Burial will be in the Allen Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives in the church social hall immediately following the church service and at other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. W.
