Esle Hobbs Rathner, age 85, of 804 Baxter Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Friday, September 17, 2004 at Guardian Care Nursing Home. She was a native of Pasquotank County, NC, and the wife of Lee Rathner of the residence. Mrs. Rathner was the daughter of the late John Walton Hobbs and Bessie Palmer Hobbs. She was a retired civil service worker with the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station, a member of First United Methodist Church, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Rathner is survived by a daughter Betty Jo Rathner Sutherland and husband, John, of Atlanta, GA; and two grandsons, John Lee Sutherland, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, and Tim Rogers of Denver, CO; and a special nephew, Tommy Spencer of Kitty Hawk, NC. She was preceded in death by a daughter Margaret R. Mitchell, who died in March, 2004.
A graveside service for Mrs. Rathner and her daughter, Margaret, will be held Monday, September 27, 2004, at 11:00am in the Highland Park Cemetery, Elizabeth City by Rev. T. R. Miller. The family will be at the residence, 804 Baxter St., Elizabeth City.
