Obituary of Albert Wickens, Jr.
Albert Emmett ‘Al’ Wickens, Jr., 72 of Pinewood Acres Drive, Powells Point, NC, died Friday October 8, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Wickens was born in Greensburg, Indiana on December 13, 1931, and was the son of the late Albert Emmett Wickens, Sr., and Ethel Lucille Smith Watts.
He was a retired HMCS (E-8) veteran of the U. S. Navy, retiring on November 1, 1978. Mr. Wickens served during the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam Conflict, and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He also served on the USS FORRESTAL, USS BOXER, USS SAN DIEGO, USS LITTLEHALES, USS REPOSE and USS PIEDMONT.
Survivors include; his wife Jocelyn Jean Wasson Wickens, one daughter Paula W. Varmette of Chesapeake, Va., two sons Jay B. Wickens and his wife Karyn of Powells Point, NC and Jeffrey M. Wickens of Chesapeake, Va., six grandchildren, Jimmy Lea, Heather Ausley, Brian Wickens, Daniel Wickens, Matthew Wickens and Nicole Wickens, and four great-grandchildren, his stepfather Paul Watts of Shelbyville, Indiana, and his beloved dog Coqui.
A funeral service will be held Sunday October 10, 2004, at 3:00 P.M. at Twiford Funeral Home Northside Chapel, 1115 North Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC with Rev. David Clift officiating. The family will join friends following the service in the funeral home visitation area.
A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday October 13, 2004, at 11:00 A. M. at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Indiana with military honors.
