Obituary of Katherine Smithson

Elizabeth City, NC Katherine Jones Smithson, 80, a resident of Carolina House of Elizabeth City, died Saturday, October 16, 2004, at her residence. She was born in Elizabeth City, daughter of the late Howard B. and Lillie J. Jones. Mrs. Smithson was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church. Survivors include: one daughter, Linda S. Mercer and her husband Doug of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, Allen Smithson and his wife Diana of Garner, NC, and Charlie Wayne Smithson and his wife Brenda of Camden, NC; two sisters, Pearl Jones and Claudene J. Brite both of Elizabeth City, NC; two brothers, Ray Jones of Elizabeth City, NC, and Braxton Jones of Ryland, NC; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Donnie Smithson and Ronnie Smithson, and two sisters, Elizabeth J. Davenport and Frances J. Evans. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at the Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, at 11:00 A.M. with Dr. Roy L. Head officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery. The family will join friends, Monday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home and following the service in the lobby of the funeral home and at other times at the home of her daughter and son-in law Linda and Doug Mercer, 628 Bayside Road, Elizabeth City, NC.
