Obituary of Lawrence Owens

OWENS WANCHESE, NC. LAWRENCE OWENS, 91, of Wanchese, died, Sunday, October 17, 2004, at the home his daughter in Clifton Forge, Va., surrounded by his family. He has been living in Eleuthera, Bahamas for the past 11 years. A long time resident of Wanchese, Mr. Owens owned and operated Owens Marina Shipyard. He was predeceased by his wife, Alberta Bennett Owens, and a son, Lawrence. Surviving are four daughters, Polly Gregory and husband Charles of Clifton Forge, Va., Doris Uhde and husband Walt of Kitty Hawk, Beverly Midgett of Wanchese and Joan Haass and husband Ron of Newark, Del., three step-children, Jean Sanderlin of Manteo, Richard Bennett of Harrington, Dell., and Thomas Bennett of Hartly Del., 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. October 23, from Whole Ministries Center, 928 E.R. Daniels Road, Wanchese, with the Rev. Charles Gregory officiating. Interment will be private.
