Obituary of Gracie White

EC WHITE Elizabeth City, NC Gracie Basnight White, 83, of 1709 Edgewood Drive, Elizabeth City, NC, died Sunday, November 14, 2004 at Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Tyrell County, NC, daughter of the late Thomas J. and Ellen Wright Basnight, and was the widow of Willard B. White who died October 19, 1998. She was retired from Rose’s Department Store as a sales clerk. Mrs. White was a member of First Christian Church where she was a past Circle Leader and member of Chancel Choir, and a member of Pocahontas Lodge Matoaca Council #10 Degree of Pocahontas, Senior Citizens Club, and Christian Woman’s Fellowship. Mrs. White is survived by one daughter, Mildred ‘ Millie’ W. Sweetenham and her husband, Donald of Stockbridge GA; one son, Thomas G. White and his wife Martha of Fox Lake, IL; and one grandson. She was predeceased by three sisters, Alethia Sutton, Pauline Bennett, and Sadie Miller, and two brothers, Dennis and Jim Basnight. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2004, at 2:00 PM in First Christian Church, with the Rev. Michael Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery, Edenton, NC. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to First Christian Church Memorial Fund, 701 Parsonage Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
