Obituary of Elizabeth Hinson

MANTEO, NC ELIZABETH HENDERSON HINSON, a wonderful and loving mother went on to be with the Lord on November 22, 2004. Mrs. Hinson was born in Anderson, SC, on March 30, 1910, the daughter of Janie Mae and Ellis Wardlaw Henderson. She had lived in Manteo for the past nine years. Mrs. Hinson began studying dance at an early age in New York and opened one of the first dancing schools in the Southeastern United States in Charlotte during the twenties. She was recognized for her knowledge and expertise of dance in a multi-state area, serving on various advisory and teaching groups. She later opened a dance school in Myrtle Beach, SC and drove to many towns on the coast to take the art of dance to children for the first time. She organized a chorus line dance group called ‘Carolina Girls’ who performed all over the east coast. Known as ‘Choo-Choo’ by her grandchildren, she often did a shuffle step with them even after the age of seventy. Mrs. Hinson, was a member of the Hawthorne United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Dance Masters of America, and various other organizations over the years. Mrs. Hinson is survived by a daughter, Libby Hinson Allen and husband, Jerry of Manteo; two grandchildren, Lisa Allen Cudworth and husband, Jay of Manteo and Jerry Chadwick Allen and wife, Shannon of Manteo; four great-grandchildren, Madison and Christian Cudworth and Colby and Luke Allen. A Memorial services will be held at Wanchese Assembly of God on Sunday, November 28, 2004 at 5:30 pm with Dr. David Dalton officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Speed the Light Memorial for ‘Choo-Choo’, P.O. Box 201 Wanchese, NC 27981. Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo is assisting the family with arrangements.
