Obituary of Melba Shannon

Kitty Hawk, NC Melba Beacham Shannon, 79, died Thursday, December 2, 2004 at her residence. Mrs. Shannon was born in South Norfolk, VA and was raised in Kitty Hawk. She and her husband Lionel who died in 1996 owned and operated the Sea Kove Motel until 1976 and the Shannon and Beacham Store in Kitty Hawk Village from 1949 to 1964. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Inez Beacham. Mrs. Shannon is survived by two sons, Lionel and his wife Clara Mae of Manteo; Barry and his wife Nancy of Southern Shores; three grandchildren, Clara Mae ‘Peaches’ Eckhardt and her husband Jim of Manteo, Lerryn Spangler and husband Brian of Mebane, NC and Gavin of Manteo; one great-grandson, Leo Woodard also of Manteo. A graveside service will be held at Austin Cemetery in Kitty Hawk on Monday, December 6, 2004 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Spotswood Graves and Rev. Richard Stone officiating. The family will receive friends at Twiford’s Funeral Home, Manteo, on Sunday, December 5th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dare Hospice, P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, NC 27954. Twiford’s Funeral Home, Manteo, is assisting the family with these arrangements.
