Obituary of Steven Midgett
Brooklyn, NY
Steven Ray Midgett, 39, died Wednesday, December 22, 2004 in Kings County Hospital. Mr. Midgett was born in Elizabeth City, NC and was employed by Citi Bank of New York. He was a graduate of Duke University and a member of the Duke University Choir and the City Road United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City, NC. By profession, he began his career as a publishing executive and business administrator with Baseball America magazine and was later instrumental in helping establish the now independent New York University Press. He later served as an administrator for Douglas Elliman of New York City. He was the son of Ray M. and Sandra Toler Midgett of Southern Shores, NC and the grandson of Sidney C. and Leola Perry Toler of Kitty Hawk and grandson of the late Seldon R. and Annabelle Midgett of Manteo.
He is also survived by one brother, Randall Midgett and wife, Ginger Gregory Midgett and niece Kathryn and nephew Evan Midgett of Elizabeth City, NC; his very best friend and life partner, Jon Scher of Brooklyn, NY; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins on the Outer Banks and in Richmond, VA whom he loved very much.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church on Sunday, December 26, 2004 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Charles McKenzie of City Road United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Austin Cemetery in Kitty Hawk. The family will receive friends at the home of his parents at 154 Duck Woods Drive, Southern Shores. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to City Road United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 535, Elizabeth City, NC 27907.
