Obituary of Gladys Spencer

Gladys Mae Johnson Spencer, age 78, of 376 Country Club Road, Camden, NC, died Saturday, December 27, 2003, at her residence. Mrs. Spencer, a native of Angier, NC, was the widow of Herbert Dewey Spencer, Sr., and the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Johnson and Alva Emily Mathews Johnson. She was a homemaker, a member of Providence Baptist Church, the Shawboro Home Extension Club, and a volunteer for the Albemarle Hospital. Mrs. Spencer is survived by three daughters, Emily Spencer Howington and husband Roger, Belinda Spencer, and husband Steven, and Donna McElroy, and husband Mark, all of Camden, NC; a son, Herbert D. Spencer, Jr., and wife JoAnn, of Southern Shores, NC; a sister, Edith Sines of Portsmouth, VA; eleven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. A funeral service will be Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at 11:00 AM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, with the Rev. Lee Porter and the Rev. Charles Stevenson officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the lobby of the funeral home immediately after the service and at other times at the residence of the daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Roger Howington, 376 Country Club Road, Camden, NC.
