Obituary of John Mahaffey

John William Mahaffey, age 87, of 705 North Martin Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Tuesday, December 28, 2004, at his residence. He was a native of Ohio, son of the late Warren D. Mahaffey and Gertrude Romaine Mahaffey, and was husband of the late Lena Garrett Mahaffey. He served in the US Navy and was retired from the NC Telephone and Telegraph Company. Mr. Mahaffey attended Pearl Street Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was a member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge # 317 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies of New Bern, NC and Sudan Shriners. He is survived by two sons, Dr. Charles E. Mahaffey of Elizabeth City, NC, and John W. Mahaffey, II of New Port News, VA; three sisters, Pearl ‘Peg’ Adams Vazquez, Mildred Ford and Junie Murphy all of Toledo, OH; one brother, Clark Mahaffey of Edmonds, WA; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. A funeral service will be Friday, December 31, 2004 in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Jim McGee officiating. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends Thursday evening at the funeral home 7:00 PM till 8:00 PM. At other times the family will be at the residence of Dr. Charles E.
