Obituary of Hilery T. Whitehurst

Hilery T. Whitehurst Gibbs Woods, NC ‘ Hilery Thomas Whitehurst, 80, died January 7, 2005. Mr. Whitehurst was born in Gibbs Woods to the late Leland and Lydia Doxey Whitehurst. He was a member of Blackwater Baptist Church, a charter member of the Blackwater Vol. Rescue Squad, a member of the Currituck Agricultural Committee for over 25 years and an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sarah Faircloth Whitehurst; two sons, Hilery Whitehurst Jr. and wife, Deborah of Asheville, NC and David Wayne Whitehurst and wife, Sharon of Kill Devil Hills, NC; one sister, Beulah Finch of Chesapeake; two brothers, Levin and Ray Whitehurst of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Michael and Joshua and one great grandchild, Tyler. Graveside services will be held at Blackwater Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends at Twiford’s Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake on Sunday from 7:00 until 8:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Blackwater Vol. Rescue Squad or to the Blackwater Baptist Church Perpetual Care Fund.
