Obituary of Bessie Sanders

Bessie Halsey Sanders, 75, of 504 Alton St., Elizabeth City died Sunday morning in the Guardian Care Nursing Home. She was born in Perquimans County, NC to the late Johnny W. and Martha ‘Mattie’ Lane Halsey and was the widow of the late Otis Melvin Sanders. She was a member of the Berea Baptist Church and Elizabeth City Chapter #44 Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Sanders was a retired bookkeeper. She is survived by two daughters, Becky Winslow and husband, Edward, of Elizabeth City, NC and Susan Whitley and husband, Don of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, David Sanders and wife, Brenda of Elizabeth City, NC and Ricky Sanders and wife, Christie of Greenville, NC; one sister, Mary Lou Kerr of Vancouver, WA; two brothers, Johnny Halsey of Chesapeake, VA. and Charles Halsey of West Virginia; six grandchildren, Heather W. Campbell, Carmen S. Brennan, Neil Sanders, Kenny Sanders, Brandy Whitley and Rachel Whitley; three great grandchildren, Tate Brennan, Paige Brennan and Gabriel Campbell. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Reid and four brothers, Joe Halsey, Eddie Halsey, Clarence Halsey and Willis Halsey. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 18, 2005, in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel at 2:00pm by Rev. Roger Stanley. Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends in the lobby of the funeral home immediately following the service and at other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Winslow, 504 Alton St., Elizabeth City, NC.
