Phillip Erwin Bates
Resident of Currituck County, NC
Phillip Erwin Bates, 64, 188 Neals Creek Road, Poplar Branch, NC, died Friday, January 21, 2005 at Albemarle Hospital. He was born in Seattle, WA; husband of Jo Heath Bates of the residence, and the son of Annette Giguere Bates of Rocky Mount, NC, and the late Erwin Henry Bates. He was a retired boilermaker instructor for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers, and a veteran of the United States Army, having served in 1962 through 1965.
Besides his wife and mother, Mr. Bates is survived by a daughter, Pam Bates Staples and husband Kevin of Shiloh, NC; two sons, Douglas Bates and wife Susan of Clayton, NC, and Kenneth Bates of Waipahu, HI; a brother, David H. Bates and wife Ann Gard of Rocky Mount, NC; and three grandchildren, Dillon Bates, Elizabeth Staples, and Alexander Staples.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 3:00 pm in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. T. J. Etheridge officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service in the lobby of the funeral home and at other times at the residence of the daughter, Pam B. Staples, 1362 South 343, Shiloh, NC.
