Obituary of Madelyn Hodges
Madelyn Jackson Hodges
Resident of Greenville, NC
Madelyn Jackson Hodges, 88, of Greenville, NC, and formally of Elizabeth City, NC, died Saturday, February 5, 2005 at her residence. She was born on September 9, 1916 in Camden County, NC; daughter of the late Albert and Marian Stevens Jackson. While attending Elizabeth City High School she met and married Marshall Brothers, Jr. in 1937. They had two children and later divorced. She raised her children and worked for various businesses in Elizabeth City. Later in life, she met Al Hodges and they were married in 1969. The couple lived in Portsmouth, VA, for a short time until Al’s death, after which Madelyn returned to Elizabeth City. Mrs. Hodges was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many positions throughout her life in the church. She was a happy person and had many friends whom she cherished and adored. She will be remembered for her many talents connected with teaching and homemaking, none the least of which was the talent of love she gave in child rearing. While her family was growing up, she willingly and lovingly made many personal sacrifices of which most were not aware. Her greatest enjoyment during her latter years was working in the garden and genealogy work.
Mrs. Hodges is survived by a daughter, Joyce Brothers Spain of Greenville, NC; a son, Donald Ray Brothers of Boise, ID; and eight grandchildren, and twenty two great grandchildren.
