Obituary of L. Frances “Fran” Akers

KITTY HAWK, NC LORA FRANCES ‘FRAN’ AKERS, 75, of Kitty Hawk, NC died Saturday, February 5, 2005 in Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, NC. She was born on July 17, 1929 in Atmore, AL. Mrs. Akers worked for many years at the Cape Hatteras National Sea Shore Park Service as an Administrative Assistant until retirement. In her retirement years, she loved watching the sunset over Currituck Sound from her home. Mrs. Akers was preceded in death by her father, Charles B. Hendricks and her mother, Leila B. Skinner, her husband, Paul Akers, and a sister, Ouida Blanche Hendricks. She is survived by two sons, Darrell McKinley and wife, Nancy of Kitty Hawk, NC and Kerry McKinley, also of Kitty Hawk, NC; four grandchildren, Jeff McKinley and Stephanie McKinley of Asheville, NC, Kristin McKinley and Brett McKinley of Hickory, NC; a former daughter-in-law, Kay McKinley of Hickory, NC; two sisters, Irma Lisec and husband, Irv of Powersite, MO, and Mavis Ward and husband, Buddy of York, AL; a brother, Gary Skinner and wife, Johnnie of Petersburg, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Akers also leaves behind her long-time friend and neighbor, Ivy Haynes. A Memorial Service will be held on the sound at her home, 1327 W. Kitty Hawk Rd. on Thursday, February 10, 2005 at 4:00 pm with Rev. Robert Pitsch officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Springs, KY 41076. May you always rest in peace at Driftwood Acres. Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo is assisting the family with arrangements.
