Henry Clay Owney, 72, of 1062 Perkins Lane, Elizabeth City, NC, died Thursday, February 10, 2005 at his residence. He was born in Pasquotank County, NC, and was the husband of Barbara Jean Harrell Owney, and the son of the late L.A. ‘Dick’ Owney and Nettie Palmer Owney Scott. He was a 1950 graduate of Elizabeth City High School and attended Roanoke Bible College for two years where he was a former trustee for forty six years. He was the former owner of Owney’s TV and Radio Repair Shop and retired from the Sprint Telephone Company in 1997 after forty years of service as a Microwave Technician. Mr. Owney was a charter member of the Elizabeth City Church of Christ and presently a member of the Towne South Church of Christ.
Besides his wife Mr. Owney is survived by a daughter, Arlene Owney Marshall of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, Michael Clay Owney and wife Sandra Derrickson Owney and Lee Andrew Owney and wife Vickie Wingo Owney both of Elizabeth City, NC; three grandsons, Aaron, Jason, and Dylan; four granddaughter, Courtney, Miranda, Nettie, and Morgan; a step-brother, George Scott and wife Margie of Angier, NC; a step-sister, Mary Simmons and husband Norman of Florida; and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Harrell and wife Becky of Elizabeth City, NC.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, February 13, 2005 at 2:00 pm in Towne South Church of Christ with Minister Mike Duffer, Ronnie J. Woolard, and Gene Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence.
