Obituary of Roland Mathews

ARLINGTON – Roland C. Mathews III, 57, died Feb. 11, 2005. He was a native of Norfolk and a son of Freda Creswell Mathews and the late Roland C. Mathews Jr. He was t h e w i d o w e r o f H o a T h i Mathews. Mr. Mathews served 20 years in the U.S. Army. He was a sergeant during Vietnam. Mr. Mathews also was a captain of security at Colonas Shipyard. Mr. Mathews is survived by two daughters, Denise Mathews of Utah and Debra Haines of Falls Church, Va.; a son, Roland C. Mathews IV and wife Josie of South Carolina; three sisters, Sandra Lugar and Julie Evans of Virginia Beach and Carol Watkins of Suffolk; a brother, Randall Mathews Sr.; four grandchildren, Cheyanne, Devin, Jacob and Samantha. A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery, Norfolk.
