EC Lowthorp Gertrude ‘Trudy’ Lowthorp Native of Elizabeth City, NC Mrs. Gertrude ‘Trudy’ Lowthorp, age 86, was born March 26, 1918, in Elizabeth City, NC. She was the daughter of the late Willie Riggs and Pearl Forbes Godfrey. Trudy died peacefully Friday, February 11, 2005, at her daughter’s home in Billings, Montana. In North Carolina, Trudy was educated, raised her family, and worked as a bookkeeper at Crystal Ice and Coal. She was a member of Elizabeth Rebekah Lodge #32, Pocahontas Matoaco Council #10, Senior Citizens, and the V.F.W. Ladies’ Auxiliary in Elizabeth City. Trudy moved to Montana to live with her daughter, Jean Carrol, in 2000. She became a member of Laurel Federated Woman’s Club, Laurel Rotana, Birthday Club, and Evergreen Rebekah Lodge #86. While living in Montana, Trudy loved to socialize and accompany her daughter to various GFWC of Montana activities. In addition to her club meetings, she enjoyed playing poker and bingo, and she loved to visit her friends at the Laurel Bus Depot. Trudy was preceded in death by her mother and father; her brother and sister-in-law Abner and Janie Riggs; her husband James Lowthorp; and her son Douglas Morris. She is survived by her daughter Jean Carrol (Keith) Thompson of Montana; her daughter Sarah (Mickey) Thompson of Alabama; her daughter-in-law Gwynn Morris of North Carolina; her sister Marjorie Riggs of South Carolina; her niece Alisa (Kenny) Carpenter of Virginia Beach; her nephew Buddy (Renee) Riggs of North Carolina; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, February 18, 2005, at 11:00 AM in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Haywood Gillikin officiating. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Big Sky Hospice, PO Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107 or the charity of one’s choice.
