Obituary of Stan Easty

EC EASTY Elizabeth City, NC Father Stan W. Easty, Jr., age 83, passed away March 18, 2005, at Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, NC. Father Easty was born May 6, 1921 to Helen and Stanley Easty in Lakewood, Ohio. He was a photographer for the Charlotte News and the Raleigh News and Observer prior to serving in the Navy during WWII as a Photographers Mate. He worked in photography until accepting a call into the ministry in 1957. He attended Episcopal Theological Seminary in Lexington, KY, and was ordained an Episcopal Priest in December 1961. His churches included Christ Church in Danville, VA, as an Associate; St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Great Bridge, VA; Church of the Epiphany in Norfolk, VA, and St. Andrews-By The Sea in Nags Head, NC, where he retired in 1982. Father and Mrs. Easty moved on board Nicodemus, a wooden 38′ Trojan Cabin Cruiser and began Waterway Ministries. After eight years aboard they moved to dry land in Elizabeth City, NC, and continued his ministry serving at Christ Church in Elizabeth City, NC, and then St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Sunbury, NC, until his passing. Father Easty enjoyed a passion for auto racing, attending Formula 1, CART and IRL races and serving as Chaplain for Dan Gurney’s All American Racers. Father Easty is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Reba, Formerly of Staunton, VA; one son Kent Easty and his wife Joan of Beaufort, SC; one daughter, Sharon Daniels and her husband, Vincent of Chesapeake, VA; five grandchildren, Katherine Oxford and her husband, James of Richmond, VA, T. Andrew Mercer and his wife Catherine of Dover, DE, Megan Easty of Charlotte, NC, Jennifer Piegzik and her husband Casey and Marc Daniels and his wife Rachel, of Va. Beach, VA; seven great grandchildren, Kendall and James Oxford, Emma, Ruby, and Jake Mercer, Trevor Piegzik and Makayla Daniels, with an eighth on the way. Father Easty will be remembered as a strong, kind and loving husband, father and friend by all who knew him well or have come in contact with him over the years. He will be greatly missed and never be out of our thoughts and memories. A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Sunbury on April 9, 2005 at 2:00PM.
