Gwendolyn Jones Madrin

Gwendolyn Jones Madrin, 92, of Elizabeth City, NC, died Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Winslow Memorial Nursing Home. She was born in Norfolk, VA; daughter of the late Raymond Clifford and Josephine Barrett Jones and was the widow of Raymond Clifton Madrin. Mrs. Madrin was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 45 years. She was the Executive Director of the Museum of the Albemarle and was active in the Museum Guild. She was the first woman hired by the Elizabeth City Public Utilities in an administrative position, and was the secretary of the Pasquotank Historical Society. Mrs. Madrin was recognized statewide by an award for Outstanding Leadership and Service at MOA and Historic Preservation.
Mrs. Madrin is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Madrin, of Elizabeth City, NC; a son, Raymond C. ‘Buddy’ Madrin, and wife, Beverly, of Elizabeth City, NC; a granddaughter, Amber Madrin, of Baltimore, MD; a sister, Winifred ‘Winnie’ Wood, of Elizabeth City, NC; a brother, Everett Jones, and wife, Gene, of Norfolk, VA; 13 nieces and nephews and their families. Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Madrin is preceded in death by a sister, Lois Catherine Peele and a brother, R.C. Jones, Jr.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, April 3, 2005 at 4:00 pm in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. T.R. Miller officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence of the son, Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Madrin, 122 Bayshore Drive, Elizabeth City, NC.
