Obituary of Ira W. Haines

WAVES, NC IRA ‘BUTCH’ HAINES, of Waves, NC, formerly of Green Creek, NJ and Philadelphia, PA, passed away on April 21, 2005 at his residence after an extended illness. ‘Butch’ worked at the A&P in Cape May Court House prior to moving to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Until recently, Butch was employed by Island Convenience in Rodanthe, NC. Butch is survived by his wife, Janice Midgett Haines of the residence; a son Kevin Haines of South Dennis, daughter-in-law, Marcia; a daughter, Susan Shanahan, son-in-law, Tom; daughter, Donna Covey, son Joseph Moher; loving grandfather to Bryan Haines, Brooke Haines, Salvatore Abbruzzese, Sarah Shanahan, Daniel Covey, Erika Covey and Andrea Covey; brothers, Charles Murray, Joseph Murray, in addition to his many friends and extended family he had on Hatteras Island. He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene & Catherine Haines, a brother, Walter Haines and a sister, Mary Doyle. Services will be at Twiford Funeral Home, 500 Budleigh St., Manteo, NC 27954 on Monday, April 25, 2005 at 11:00 am. A viewing and visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. In addition, a memorial service will be held at a later date in Philadelphia, PA. The family requests that contributions in his memory be made to the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation, POB 442, Hatteras, NC 27943. Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo is assisting the family with arrangements.
