Alton Earl Strain, 67, 2719 Peartree Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Thursday, May 19, 2005 at Albemarle Hospital. He was born in Hubert, NC, the son of the late Leonard Strain and Rosalie Matthews Strain and the husband of Dean Hassell Strain of the residence. He was a retired chief machinery technician from the United States Coast Guard, a member of the C.P.O.A., and was the owner / operator of Al’s Stump Grinding.
Besides his wife, Mr. Strain is survived by three daughters, Theresa Saunders and husband Donnie of Hertford, NC, Sheryl Hurdle and husband Marty of Hertford, NC, and Deanna Broyles and husband Robby of Elizabeth City, NC; two sisters, Lena Brownley and Thelma Collins; a brother, Sam Strain; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 3:00 pm in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Roland Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors performed by William Clarence Jackson V.F.W. Post 6060. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
