Obituary of Donnely Cowan

EC COWAN Elizabeth City, NC Colonel Donnely Gordon ‘Don’ Cowan, U. S. Army (Ret.) 71, of 104 Holly Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died Saturday May 28, 2005 at the Albemarle Hospital. Mr. Cowan was born December 31, 1933 in Halifax County, Scotland Neck, NC. He was the son of Mary Lois Little Cowan and the late James Early Cowan. On September 11, 1955 he married Beverly Ann Glenn Cowan. He was a retired Colonel of the U.S. Army, a graduate of Jacksonville High School Class of 1953, a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and former real estate agent with Chappell Realty Co. Survivors include his wife; Beverly Ann Glenn Cowan, his mother Mary Lois Little Cowan of Eddy, Texas; one son Richard Dennis Cowan of Mount Airy, NC; three brothers, David Cowan of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, James Durwood Cowan of Weyers Cave, VA, and William Cowan of Eddy, Texas; four grandchildren Heather Rocco, Matthew Rocco, Zachary Rocco all of Lake Ridge, VA, and Dorian Cowan of Mount Airy, NC. He was preceded in death by one daughter Kathy C. Rocco who died in December, 1998. A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 A. M. Tuesday May 31, 2005 from the Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC with the Rev. Josh MacKenzie and Pastor Durwood Cowan officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to; the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 220, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
