W. M. ‘Bill’ Curtis
Native of Ashland, KY
William Martin ‘Bill’ Curtis, of 1712 Crescent Drive, Elizabeth City, NC, died Sunday, June 5, 2005 at the Albemarle Hospital. He was born in Ashland, KY, in 1926, the son of Hazel and Clarence Curits. He was the brother of Richard Curtis of Sacramento, CA, an was preceded in death by his two sisters, Jane Walsh and Nancy Cole. He was the beloved son-in-law of the late Juanita P. Kellog and Martin Kellog, Jr., of Manteo, NC.
Bill was the loving husband of Jean Miller Parker Curtis, of the residence, for fifty-seven years; the father of William Martin Curtis, Jr., of Kill Devil Hills, NC, and of Nancy Curtis Driskill and her husband Stephen Driskill of Lynchburg, VA. He was the grandfather of Nancy and Steve’s three children; Shelby Driskill, and her husband Doug Broome of Richmond, VA; Jacob Driskill and his wife Karen of Richmond, VA; and Aaron Driskill of Lynchburg, VA and was the great grandfather of Stella Broome.
Bill served in the Army Air Corps in Africa during WW II and after the war joined the U. S. Coast Guard where he served with honor for 24 years. After his retirement from active duty, he worked for many years at the U. S. Coast Guard repair Base in Elizabeth City, NC.
A memorial service for William Curtis, led by the Reverend Haywood Gillikin will be held at Riverside United Methodist Church, on Thursday, June 9, 2005, at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at the church immediately after the service and during other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers consideration may be given to Riverside United Methodist Church, PO Box 1693, Elizabeth City, NC 27906 or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, c/o Axie White, 105 Rosedale Drive, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
