Obituary of George McIntosh
George James McIntosh, ‘Mr. Mac’, 90, passed away at his home on May 4, 2005. Mr. McIntosh was born in Orange, NJ and his entire career was devoted to public education in Virginia. He earned his B.S. Degree from Randolph Macon College in Ashland and his Masters from the University of Virginia. Mr. McIntosh was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his retirement from Newport News Public Schools, he moved to Southern Shores where he was an active member of St. Andrew’s By-The-Sea. He was the son of the late George & Isabel Laing McIntosh and the widower of Harriett Ross Caulk and Frances Mae Strohecker.
He is survived by one daughter, Betsy McIntosh Taylor and husband William Cleveland of Fredericksburg; one granddaughter, Catherine Taylor Marstellar of Atlanta, GA; two great-granddaughters, Mary Taylor Marstellar and Lauren McIntosh Marstellar, both of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Isabel McIntosh Fowler of Chapel Hill and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the Southern Shores Cemetery on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at 11:00 AM . Memorial donations may be sent to the school named for him, McIntosh Elementary School, 185 Richneck Road, Newport News, VA, 23608.
