Obituary of Carol Graeme

Carol Bergstedt Graeme, Frisco, NC, died June 18, 2005 at home following a year long battle with cancer. She was 59 years old. Carol is survived by her husband, Walter A. Graeme, Jr., her son, Walter III & daughter-in-law Renee Waddington Graeme of Kill Devil Hills, her mother Jean Borkowski of Tucson, AZ, and a sister Nancy Farrell, Hatteras, NC. Mrs. Graeme was born in Elizabeth, NJ in 1946 and grew up in Clark, NJ. A 1968 graduate of Mary Washington College, Fredericksburg, VA, she earned a BA in English and began her middle school and elementary teaching career in the South Brunswick, NJ school system. Over a period of more than thirty-five years, she taught middle school English at several schools including St. Catherine of Sienna School, Wilmington, DE, where she was also assistant principal. She taught 5th grade at St. Anne’s School, Liguna Niguel ,California and was the chairman of the English department and a 6th grade English teacher at Cape Hatteras High School from 1998 until her passing. Throughout her career Carol was active in promoting and securing grants for her student’s reading programs, several middle school accreditation programs, and was committed to the improvement in reading and English principles for all of her students. She was a communicant and liturgical minister at Our Lady of The Seas Catholic Church, Buxton, NC where she was a member of the building committee for the new rectory and church. Carol was an active member of the Cape Hatteras School Red Hatters and spent much of her leisure time with that group as well as enjoying the beach in Frisco. A Mass of The Resurrection will be celebrated by Father Andre Izac, Pastor of Our Lady of The Seas Catholic Church on June 22, 2005 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society of Hatteras, NC. Arrangements are being handled by Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo, NC.
