Obituary of Julia Hassell

EC HASSELL Elizabeth City, NC Julia Ballance Hassell, age 87, of 1204 Hassell Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Sunday, July 3, 2005. She was a native of Elizabeth City, NC, daughter of the late Cary Ballance, Sr., and Norma Ellen Bright Ballance, and was wife of the late Theodore ‘T.R.’ Thedie Hassell. She was a member of Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church. She is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Jordan of Camden, NC, Cleo Bennett of Winston-Salem, NC, Norma Jordan of Nashville, NC, and Nettie Matkins of Columbia, SC; six sons, Caleb Hassell of Richmond, VA, Cecil Hassell of Camden, NC, Dallas Hassell of Midlothian, VA, Henry, Stanley, and Jarvis, ‘Pete’ Hassell all of Elizabeth City, NC; three sisters, Ellen Bishop of Goldsboro, NC, Bessie Barnard of Elizabeth City, NC, and Barbara Hagatha of Winterhaven, FL; one brother, Caleb Ballance of Elizabeth City, NC; twenty nine grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by one stepdaughter, Patsy Eure, one son, Tex Hassell, and five brothers, William Henry Ballance, Roland Ballance, Cary Ballance, Jr., Irvin Ballance, and Melvin Ballance, and one sister, Annie Bishop. A graveside service will be Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at 11;00 AM in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. David Benton and Glenn Greenway officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC. At other times the family will be at the residence.
