Obituary of Elva Mae Simpson
Elva Mae Simpson, 94, died July 22, 2005 in Virginia Beach, VA. She was born on January 25, 1911 to the late Ezekiel and Eleanor Gallop in Wanchese, NC. She was the third and eldest daughter of 11 children. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church for over 50 years and the Order of Pocahontas for over 50 years.
Survivors include her loving daughter, Martha Morrison of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Rex Simpson and wife Vicki of Wanchese, NC, Bridget Tymul and husband Bob and William Morrison and wife Laura all of Virginia Beach, VA; great grandchildren, Zeke, Hannah, and Tucker Simpson, and Missie Daniels all of Wanchese, NC and Melissa Tymul of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Elnora Midgett and a niece, Linda Southard of Virginia Beach, VA; two brothers, Ezekiel Roscoe Gallop and wife Gilda and Erbe Gallop and wife Mary all of Wanchese, NC; and many, many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, Elva was preceded in death by her husband, Meriest A. Simpson; her son, Meriest E. ‘Nut’ Simpson; two sisters, Eloise Payne and Ezeta Reber; and five brothers, Elwood, Elton, Elbert, Ebert, and Early Gallop.
She was a talented, feisty, loving woman with the best sense of humor who always had a twinkle in her eye. She worked hard, enjoyed life and loved everyone. She loved and was known for quilting beautiful pillows. She will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Bethany United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bill Cottingham. Burial will be in Cudworth Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo on Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM and at other times at the residence of Rex and Vicki Simpson, 625 E.R. Daniels Road, Wanchese.
