Obituary of Helen Morris

EC MORRIS Elizabeth City, NC Mrs. Helen Marie Smith Morris, age 93, a former resident of 588 Blount Road, Elizabeth City, NC, and Winslow Memorial Nursing Home, died Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 12:05 AM in the Albemarle Hospital. She was daughter of the late Weldon T. Smith and Maggie Umphlett Smith Morris, and was wife of the late Martin Jackson Morris, Sr. She worked for many years as a saleslady for McCory McClelllan Stores and W.T. Grant Company. She was a member of the Pasquotank County Curb Market Association and was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She was also a member of Evangelical Methodist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Delorus Morris Kemp and her husband, Wilbert, Jr. of Hertford, NC; two sons, Martin Jackson ‘Jack’ Morris, Jr. and his wife Alice, Aubrey Gene Morris and his wife Sally, both of Elizabeth City, NC; five grandchildren, Susan Ann Morris of Elizabeth City, NC, Clayton Allen Morris and his wife, Veronica of Lawrence, MA, Kimberly Renee Underwood and her husband John of Richmond, VA, Kevin Morris of Boone, NC, and Steven Jason Kemp of Raleigh, NC; four great grandchildren, Kolby, Kyle, and Kaden Underwood, and Taylor Roberts. She was predeceased by one brother, Weldon Smith, half brothers, and a half sister. A funeral service will be Saturday, August 6, 2005, at 11:00 AM in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, with the Rev. Meredith Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the lobby of the funeral home.
