Obituary of T.A. “Tommy” Meekins, Jr.
KITTY HAWK, NC
T.A. ‘Tommy’ MEEKINS, Jr., CWO4, U.S. Army Retired, 53, of Kitty Hawk, NC died Monday, August 15, 2005 at his residence. Mr. Meekins, born in Jarvisburg, NC, was retired after 25 years of service from the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He was currently employed with East Coast Communications. He was a member of the First Flight Military Officers Association and the American Legion Post. He was the son of Thomas A. Meekins, Sr. and Violet Keller Meekins of Kitty Hawk, NC.
Besides his parents, Mr. Meekins is survived by his wife, Nancy Ward Meekins of the residence; a daughter, Carrie Meekins Dilworth and husband, Don of Avon, NC; two sons, Ryan Thomas Meekins and wife, Tiffany of Avon, NC, and Byron Keith Shaw of Nags Head, NC; a sister, Karen Meekins Friel and husband, Dr. Patrick Friel of Acton, MA; a brother, Douglas C. Meekins and wife, Martha of Kitty Hawk, NC; one grandchild, Liam Thomas Dilworth of Avon, NC; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church on Friday, August 19, 2005 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Richard Stone and Rev. Brad Bradshaw officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Austin Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 pm and at other times at the residence of Thomas Alston Meekins, Sr., 4233 Bob Perry Rd., Kitty Hawk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
