Obituary of Robert Ryder

Wanchese, NC Robert James Ryder, Jr., 54, of Wanchese, NC, died Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at his residence. Born in Queens, NY, he was the son of Robert James Ryder, Sr. and Lucille Brocks Ryder of St. Simons Island, GA. He was a safety inspector for a building contracting company, an avid fisherman, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Vietnam Era. Besides his parents, Mr. Ryder is survived by two sons, Benjamin James Ryder and Robert J. Ryder, III both of Portage, MI; a sister, Jacqueline Hull of Branson, MO; three brothers, Kenneth Ryder of Nags Head, NC, John Ryder of Midway, GA, and Christopher Ryder of Southampton, NY; a grandson, Benjamin J. Ryder, Jr. of Portage, MI; a special companion, Anita Phelps of Virginia Beach, VA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo by the Rev. Robert Pitsch. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
