Reva Burrell Riddick Carter

Reva Burrell Riddick Carter, 103, a former resident of 968 Wellfield Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Sunday, September 4, 2005 at Winslow Memorial Home. She was born in Pasquotank County on October 16, 1901, the daughter of the late Burrell Jennings and Penelope Bright Riddick and was the wife of the late William Wesley ‘Willie’ Carter. She was the oldest member of Corinth Baptist Church, a member of the Women’s Missionary Union, and was a member of the TEL Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Carter is survived by four daughters, Dorothy Saunders, Rubelle Baum, Edith Waller and her husband, Charles, and Rachel Naughton and her husband, ‘Bob’ all of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, Robert B. Carter of Elizabeth City, NC, and Melvin Carter and his wife, Ruby of Fayetteville, NC; a daughter-in-law, Inez S. Carter of Elizabeth City, NC; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, fourteen great great grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Carter was predeceased by a son, Rev. William Edward Carter and a grandson, Wesley Parker Saunders.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at 11:00 am in Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Meredith Garrett and Rev. David Turner officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel; immediately following the service in the social hall of the church; and at other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Waller, 963 Wellfield Road, Elizabeth City, NC.
