Obituary of Ronald Witzel
Southern Shores, NC
RONALD WOODRUM WITZEL, 64, of Southern Shores, NC, died Monday, September 12, at his residence.
Born in Beckley, WV, he was the son of the late Hilda Virginia Woodrum Witzel and William Russell Witzel. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, William Thomas Witzel. A United States Military Academy graduate, Mr. Witzel was an eight year veteran of the U.S. Army and served a combat tour in the Vietnam conflict. He retired a Special Agent of the FBI. With a PhD in Engineering Management, he was a full time professor at University of Maryland, University College and later at The George Washington University. Mr. Witzel was then Curriculum Coordinator and professor for Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University, first at Tyson’s Corner Center in Virginia and then at Tampa Bay Center in Florida.
He was a sailboat owner and enthusiast who enjoyed Chesapeake Bay, Tampa Bay, and blue water sailing.
Mr. Witzel is survived by his wife, Liesel Kohnke Witzel of the residence; two sons, Major Mark Douglas Witzel of Seoul, Korea and Bradley Steven Witzel of Fort Mill, SC; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, September 23, 2005 at 4:00 PM at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Southern Shores, NC, by Father Tom Wilson.
