Obituary of Edward York, Sr.
Edward Louis York, 81, of 1006 Flora Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Friday, September 16, 2005, at Guardian Care Nursing Home. He was a native of Guilford County, Greensboro, NC, son of the late Grady Levy York and Betty Crowder York. He was the husband of Elenor Smithson York of the residence and was retired from the US Coast Guard as a CWO4 with 30 years of service. He was a life time member of the Pasquotank/Camden Volunteer Rescue Squad, a member of the USS Belleau Wood (CVL-24) Association of Shipmates, Kodiak Masonic Lodge # 9 AF&AM, Juneau Scottish Rite and the Nile Shriners.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Edward ‘Ed’ L. York, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Anchorage, AK, and Donald Eugene York of Clearwater, FL; one sister, Mary T. York of Greensboro, NC; two grandchildren, Christopher Steven York and Edward L. York, III. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Susan York.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday September 21, 2005 at 2:00 P. M. at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, with Austin Keaton and Bill Ricks officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 P. M. to 8:00
P. M. at Twiford Funeral Home.
