Walter Martin

Obituary of Walter Martin

Walter ‘Wally’ Martin, 91, passed from this life on October 15, 2005, and went to join the loves of his life-his mother and his dearly loved wife of 65 years, Lucy May. He was born in the city of Hull, Yorkshire, England on July 6, 1914 to Isaac and Edith Emily Tyson Martin. He came to the United States where he proudly became an American Citizen in 1966. He was a resident of Pasquotank County for the past 15 years moving here from New Bern, NC. He mastered many trades in his lifetime and was a perfectionist in all he did. He returned the gift of a wonderful tenor voice, which he used to entertain publicly until cancer removed the voice, but not the music from his life and he uplifted all who knew him. He was very proud of his earned degrees to exalted ranks in the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffalos in England. During World War II in England he served in the Territorial Army. He was a very honest man with the highest of principles. Because of his great capacity to love, he leaves behind a grieving, but very loving family that will ever celebrate his life and cherish his memory. Two daughters and their husbands; Patricia and Bob Willis of Elizabeth City, NC Maureen and Frederick Kennedy of Houston, TX, and a son and his wife; Walter ‘Trevor’ and Donna Martin of Kenner, LA, seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 3:00 P. M at the Twiford Funeral Home, Northside Chapel, 1115 North Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC with Rev. Haywood Gillikin officiating. The family will join friends after the memorial service and other times at the home of his daughter at 1821 Darian Drive. The family request that in lieu of flowers gifts be made in his name to the Riverside United Methodist Church Building Fund, C/O P. O. Box 1693, Elizabeth City, NC 27906 or the American Cancer Society, C/O 404 Jessup Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
