Obituary of Rufus “Tank” Hewitt

EC HEWITT Elizabeth City, NC Rufus F ‘Tank’ Hewitt, died Tuesday, November 8, 2005. Mr. Hewitt was born June 6, 1920 in Pasquotank County, NC. He was an active member of Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church, a member of the South Mills Masonic Lodge, a retired farmer, and an Army Veteran of WWII. He is survived a daughter, Suzette Owens and her husband Edward, a son Michael Hewitt and his wife Sharon, a grandson Steven Berke of Black Hawk, SD, a sister, Katherine Brown of Portsmouth, VA, and a very dear friend, Florine Weeks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Rhodes Hewitt, a daughter, Sherry Hewitt and a grandson, Brett Berke. Visitation will be at the home, 1354 Newland Road, Elizabeth City, at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening. A funeral service will be Thursday, November 10, 2005, at 3:00 PM in Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathan Rush officiating. Burial will follow in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
