Obituary of Robert E. Hart

Robert Edmond Hart, died Tuesday morning at his home in Knightdale, North Carolina, after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Robert P. Hart and Helen H. Foil.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sheila Scott Hart; a daughter, Melissa Hart O’Neal and her husband Teddy; a son Jeffrey Robert and his wife Dana; two granddaughters Emily and Lauren O’Neal; and a brother Jim Hart and his wife Linda.
After graduating from Elizabeth City High School, Bob attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology and North Carolina State University from which he received a Degree in the Science of Electrical Engineering. He also received a Master of Business Administration degree from Western Carolina University and did further academic study at the University of Florida and Miami University in Ohio. Bob also did military research at Wright Patterson Air Force Base while serving as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force.
During the rest of his career Bob worked for Square ‘D’ Company, Airpax (a Division of Phillips) and Seimens International (Division of Energy and Automation). These positions included senior design engineering, senior supervising engineer, chief engineer, manager of product and development engineering, and director of engineering.
His career offered the opportunity for the family to enjoy new experiences as they moved throughout our country. A few years ago, after retirement, Sheila and Bob moved back to North Carolina where he enjoyed a brief career with Venture Resources, Inc., a Business Brokerage Firm in Raleigh.
As a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Bob has served in positions of leadership on standing committees and as church deacon and elder. He was a member of St. Paul’s Christian Church in Raleigh. Also he participated in worthy community projects including Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, AARP senior tax preparation.
He will be remembered for his dry wit by friends who fondly addressed his as ‘King of the One-liners.’ His coworkers admired him for his honesty and his unyielding commitment to product safety. His family
will always keep him in their hearts as a loving and devoted husband, father and a friend.
A celebration of the life of Robert Hart will be held at First Christian Church in Elizabeth City on Saturday, November 12, 2005, at two o’clock, led by the Reverend Michael Barnes.
