James Martin ‘Jimmy’ Voliva, Sr., age 68, of 136 East Ridge Road, Moyock, NC, died Friday, December 31, 2004, in Albemarle Hospital. He was a native Camden County, NC, son of Elizabeth Sawyer Voliva of Elizabeth City, NC, and the late Clyde S. Voliva, and husband of Dorothy P. ‘Dot’ Voliva of the residence. Mr. Voliva served in the US Air force, and was retired from the Ford Motor Company and past president of local 919. He was also retired from the U.A.W. International as Representative Region #8, and was a former County Commissioner and a member of Shawboro Ruritans. He was member of Providence Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday School Superintendent and deacon. He also coached county league baseball.
Beside his wife and mother, Mr. Voliva is survived by two sons, Tony Voliva and his wife Donna of Currituck, NC, Mike Voliva and his wife, Lena of Sligo, NC; one sister, Linda Mayo and her husband, Gilbert of Raleigh, NC; one brother, Larry Voliva and his wife Bonnie of Eugene, Oregon; five grandchildren, Martin, Marybeth, Evan, Sarah, and Adam Voliva. He was predeceased by one son, Jim M. Voliva, Jr.; five brothers and two sisters.
A funeral service will be Monday, January 3, 2005, at 2:00 PM in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, with Rev. Charles Stevens and Rev. Charles Wellons officiating. Burial will follow in the Family Cemetery 219 Bullyard Road. The family will receive friends Sunday evening 7:00 PM till 8:30 PM at the funeral home, other times the family will be at the residence, 136 East Ridge Road, Moyock, NC.
