Obituary of Miriam Cooper Russell

EC RUSSELL Elizabeth City, N.C. Miriam Cooper Russell, 75, of 119 Bayshore Drive, Elizabeth City, NC, died Sunday, December 11, 2005 at her residence. She was born August 22, 1930, in Pasquotank County, and was the daughter of the late Jarvis Cooper and Queenie White Cooper. She was a member of the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Ladies Auxiliary, and a retired cafeteria employee with the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools. She was preceded in death by: her husband Haywood Woodrow ‘Big Boy’ Russell on April 21, 1998; her sister Elizabeth Cooper; and brothers Jarvis Cooper, Jr., Guy Cooper and J. D. Cooper. Survivors include: her sons Michael Hassell and wife Deb of Charlotte, NC, Gerald W. Hassell and friend Barbara Lanier of Hampstead, NC, and William H. ‘Billy’ Russell and friend Christine Selfridge of Elizabeth City, NC; sister Veronica Cooper of Richmond, VA; brother Billy Cooper of Elizabeth City, NC; two grandchildren Amanda Meredith Hassell of Wilmington, NC, and Jonathan Hassell of Monroe, NC. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 15, at 1:00 P.M. at Twiford Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will join friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 P. M. to 8:30 P. M. at Twiford Funeral Home, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC and at other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Food Bank of the Albemarle, c/o P. O. Box 1704, Elizabeth City, NC 27906.
