Obituary of Sheldon Joseph Googoo Sr.
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Sheldon 28 of we'koqmaq First Nation on Friday January 25, 2004 in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Inverness, he is survived by his mother Annie Jane Toney and his stepfather Benedict Toney, his father Stanley Googoo and stepmother Betty Googoo all of We'koqmaq. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish. Sheldon was a prominent leader and role model serving as a councilor for six years. He excelled at sports especially baseball and hockey and was an avid hunter. Sheldon played triple A hockey. He played with the Port Hood Bee's and the Strait Pirates winning countless awards and trophies as a goalie for his teams. His dedication to the sport of hockey made him widely known but it will be for his quick smile and generous heart that he will be missed the most by everyone. His main passion in life was his children whom he loved unconditionally and deeply. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his longtime partner Denise Googoo, children Sheldon Jr., Selena, Shaquille, Stanley, Sisters; Darla Bernard (John Leonard ), Natalie Googoo, Patricia Peters (Stewart ), Brothers; Adrian "son" (Jennifer ), Terrance (Arlene ), Corey, Johnathan all of We'koqmaq, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends. He was predeceased by maternal grandparents John and Bridgett ( Paul ) Basque of Chapel Island, paternal grandparents Michael P. and Ellen (Sylliboy ) Googoo of We'koqmaq.
Visitation will be at the family residence, 9127 Hwy 105 We'koqmaq after 7 pm Monday. Funeral mass will be held 11 am Wednesday in Holy Trinity Church with Rev. Bernie MacDonald officiating, burial in the parish cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh.
