Obituary of Murdock Henry Digout

DIGOUT, Murdock Henry - 92, St. Peter's, died Thursday, August 18, 2005, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in French Cove, Richmond Co., he was a son of the late William and Rebecca (Landry) Digout. Murdock was a retired lockmaster from Canso Canal, Port Hastings. He was a member of St. Peter's Parish, St. Peter's. He was a long-time member of the Rankin Credit Union and served on the Board of Directors for many years. He was a school board trustee, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 47, St. Peter's, St. Peter's Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Nova Scotia Bird Society and St. Peter's Volunteer Fire Department. In his younger years he played ball and played hockey with the Lakeside Tigers. Murdock was an avid gardener, fly fisherman, birder and card player. He was a veteran of the Second World War. He is survived by daughters, Rebecca (Steve) Coull, St. Peter's; Leah (Ray) Jeffrey, Bedford; Helen, Lebanon, N.H.; Alisa (Tom) Wall, St. Peter's; sons, Kelvin (Anne), Leonard (Dana), both of St. Peter's; Billy (Sheila), Sampsonville; John (Ria), Fall River; Clarence (Peggy), Chateauguay, Que.; sisters, Earldeen Perry, Massachusetts; Elnora Sampson, Sampsonville; brother, Lawrence (Lucy), St. Peter's; grandchildren, Mary, Tara, Frances, April, Lennie, Craig, Kari, Stephanie, Shelley, Andrea, Scott, Brent, Eva, Maria, Joseph, Alex, Hanie, Elizabeth, Robbie, Michele, David, Chris and Martin; great-grandchildren, Mason, Jack, Kate, Jessica, Ryan, Max, Tyler, Dillan, Nicholas, Christian, Tiffany, Erin. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Eva Pettipas; granddaughter, Genny Wall; daughter, Carol (John) O'Brien; brothers, Herman, Victor, and Ernest; sisters, Helen Maxwell, Theresa Lecheyne, Clara Sockett, Rosella and Mabel. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 26 Centennial St., St. Peter's. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Father Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Donations in memory of Murdock may be made to St. Peter's Bread Bank, Strait Richmond Hospital, St. Peter's Parish Building Fund or Cemetery Fund.
