PEMBROKE, Dorothy Leona - 88, Canso, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2004, in Canso Seaside Manor. Born in Hazel Hill, she was a daughter of the late Lemuel and Rosamond (Rhynold) Bennett. She was a homemaker, member of Canso United Baptist Church, and an avid bingo player. Nanny Dot had an open fridge policy and we loved her for her pies. She is survived by her husband, Vernon 'Bud', Canso; daughter, Joan (Aubrey) Edwards, Halifax; Mary (Harold) Dort, Canso; Sheila (Melvin) Rhynold, Canso; sons, Shirl (Dot) Bennett, Canso; Clarence (Judy) Swaine, Halifax; Gordon Swaine, Dartmouth; sisters, Ruby Swaine, Canso; Jean George, Philips Harbour; brothers, Russell (Polly) Bennett, Toronto; Gerald (Florence) Bennett, Canso; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her former husband, Clarence Swaine; daughter, Ruby Horne; sisters, Ethel George, Hattie Johnson; half-sister, Mabel Swaine; brothers, Calvin, Lawrence, Albert; half-brother, Oren. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in Canso United Baptist Church, Rev. David Wheeler officiating.
