Obituary of Bernard Francis “Bernie” Wood

WOOD, Bernard Francis 'Bernie' - 68, Auld's Cove, Antigonish Co., died Saturday, October 22, 2005, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late John Sr. and Jessie (MacAskill) Wood. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Mulgrave. Bernie worked several years in the construction industry. He worked 32 years with the Canadian Coast Guard at the Canso Canal and Marine Emergency Centre, Mulgrave. Bernie was a past member of Auld's Cove Volunteer Fire Department and Auld's Cove Recreation. He was an avid fisherman and sportsman and a member of Winter Wanderers Club. Bernie was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone that needed him and could make anyone feel good with his positive attitude and amusing remarks. He is survived by his wife, the former Sharon Smith; daughters, Bernardine Wood, Halifax; Yvonne Campbell, England; Anne Wood, Halifax; Daphine Wood, Port Hawkesbury; stepdaughter, Tova (Brian) Ryan, Harve Boucher; son, Basil, Halifax; sisters, Mary Fougere, Margaret (Leo) Meagher, both of Auld's Cove; Barbara (Gary) Thompson, Cloverville; sister-in-law, Eileen Meagher, Auld's Cove; brothers, John Jr. (Mary), Ken (Catherine), Joseph (Chrissy), all of Auld's Cove; Danny (Jean), Cape Jack; Ronnie, Auld's Cove; Vincent (Annie), Port Hawkesbury; Larry (Linda), Auld's Cove; grandchildren, Ian Pettigrew, Jayden and Brieley Ryan. He was predeceased by brother, Allan; sisters, Mary Carol, Laura Fougere; brothers-in-law, Vincent Fougere and Russell Fougere; sister-in-law, Bernadette Wood. Visitation was held Sunday in Mulgrave and Area Resting Place. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. today in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Father Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Donations in memory of Bernie may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Mulgrave and Area Resting Place.
