Obituary of Frances Rowena Dennis

DENNIS, Frances Rowena - 90, Moncton, N.B., formerly of Port Hawkesbury and Middle Stewiacke, died Tuesday, August 23, 2005, in The Briarlea, Moncton, N.B. Born in Forest Glen, Colchester Co., she was a daughter of the late George and Carletta (Whidden) Sutherland. She was a homemaker and, with her late husband, Cecil, owned and operated the Oxbow Farm in Middle Stewiacke for approximately 20 years. They spent the summers at the cottage in Malagash for over 40 years and Frances thoroughly enjoyed entertaining her family and many friends. She was a member of Middle Stewiacke United Church and the UCW. While living in Port Hawkesbury, she attended Holy Trinity Anglican Church, as well as Malagash United Church during the summers. She was a life member of the Atlantic Association of Clan Sutherland, having served as treasurer for many years. She and Cecil traveled extensively in Canada and the United States visiting family and friends. They also toured several European countries, as well as many trips to Scotland and Cuba where they made lasting friendships. Surviving are daughter, Carol (Dennis) Haverstock, Port Hawkesbury; son, Dr. William 'Bill' (Francie), Moncton, N.B.; sister, Louise McMullin, Brookfield; sister-in-law, Marg Sutherland, Truro; granddaughters, Stephanie (John) Davidson, Keswick, Ont.; Tracey (Greg) Hotta, Thornhill, Ont.; Gina Haverstock, Germany; grandsons, Greg (Robin) Dennis, Scarborough, Ont.; Terry (Karen) Dennis, Riverview, N.B.; Grant Haverstock, Penticton, B.C.; six great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; four nieces and three nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil; grandsons, Dawson and Garth Haverstock; sister, Margaret Turner; brothers, Evan and Charlie; brothers-in-law, Terry Turner, Ian McMullin; one niece and one nephew. Visitation will be held Saturday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro, where funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Private family interment will be held in Middle Stewiacke Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.
