Obituary of John Gerald Calder
CALDER, John Gerald - 90, St. George's Channel, Richmond Co., passed away peacefully in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, on Tuesday, November 16, 2004.
He was a son of the late James D. and Annie (Morrison) Calder.
John was predeceased by his wife, Dolena Mary (MacKay); daughter, Wilma Ann and an infant son. He was a lifelong member of the Black River United Church and a 60 year member of Richmond Masonic Lodge No. 97. He is survived by his daughter, Joan (Bernard Crewe); granddaughters, Carolina and Colleen; and great-grandson, Braeden. He is also survived by sisters, Jessie (MacDonald), Christine (Wheaton), Margaret (Warren); and brother, William. John will be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews, and his many special and valued friends.
He was a lumberman for most of his life, cutting pulp and driving a pulp truck to the Bowater Paper Company. He also drove a school bus for the Richmond County School Board for many years. John's vegetable garden, potato patch and spring and summer flowers were his labour of love that brought him much pleasure. His love for horses and horse collectibles were a lifelong passion.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, November 20, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m., both in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
Funeral service to celebrate the life of John will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 21, in Black River United Church, Rev. Fran Six officiating. Private burial at a later date in MacKay Cemetery.
