Obituary of Babe Irene Dobson

DOBSON, Babe Irene - 67, Queensport. It is with deepest sorrow that we must announce the passing of our beloved Babe, in Guysborough Memorial Hospital, on Wednesday, September 29, 2004, after a long illness she handled with determination, dignity and grace. She was born in Antigonish on February 13, 1937, the eldest daughter of the late Seymour and Odessa (George) Meads. She settled in Queensport and followed her calling to be a teacher. She served the Guysborough County school system for 35 years, educating and inspiring hundreds of students from the surrounding communities. Her other great passions in life, her family and her church, were the focus of her retirement years. Babe was a tireless fundraiser, as well as a church treasurer and a member of Christ Church Sewing Guild. She also joined the Shamrock Club in recent years and discovered both new friends and a talent for carpet bowling. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Harry; daughter, Meta (Craig) Muir; son, David (Sally); grandchildren, Shane, Jade, and Tyler. Her family is large and well loved. Also surviving are sisters, Claire (Bert) Warren, Barbara Penny, Bonny (Francis) George; brother, Jerry (Trish). She also treasured Harry's family and her many dear nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all the medical personnel who helped during Babe's illness, including the staff at Nova Scotia Cancer Centre, the doctors and nurses of Guysborough Memorial Hospital and the continuing care program, with a special 'Bless you' to Karen Hoben. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Christ Church, Queensport, Rev. Tory Byrne officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. In recognition of the limited seating in the church, Christ Church Hall will be open to friends from 10:30 a.m. onward. Reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, and in recognition of Babe's commitment to her community church, memorial donations may be made to Christ Church, Queensport, RR 2, Guysborough, NS B0H 1N0, or a charity of your choice.
