Obituary of John Alexander “Jackie” Morrison
MORRISON, John Alexander 'Jackie' - 70, Whycocomagh. The family is saddened to announce his passing after a lengthy illness, on Thursday, January 20, 2005, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Big Marsh, Inverness Co., he was a son of Rebecca 'Beckie' (Gillis) Morrison, Whycocomagh, and the late Elvin Morrison. Jackie was a member and elder of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Whycocomagh; a member of Stewartdale Cemetery Fund, and former member of the Whycocomagh Volunteer Fire Department. Jackie worked as a welder for the Department of Transportation for many years until his retirement. Jackie had a strong passion for card playing and a sharp sense of humour.
Surviving besides his mother, Beckie, are special friend, Cathy Rankin; sons, Stewart (Anita), Orangedale; Ivan (Joyce), Upper River Denys; daughter, Jill, Aberdeen; sister, Neila (Joe) Gerrior, Iron Mines, Inverness Co./Florida; former wife, Shirley, Aberdeen. Gramps' pride and joy were his grandchildren, Dylan, Devin and Jade.
Visitation will be held in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh, 7-9 p.m. today and 2-9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Rev. Ron Sharpe officiating. Burial in Stewartdale Cemetery. Donations in memory of Jackie may be made to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church or Stewartdale Cemetery Fund. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital as well as the Victoria County Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care given to Jackie.
